Foster to Forever (FTF) Puppy Adoption Program
The LAWS “Foster to Forever Program” (FTF) is designed for puppies in our program who are not yet old enough or do not weigh enough to be spayed/neutered and, therefore, cannot be adopted through our standard adoption process. This program is available exclusively to Albany County residents, as LAWS retains jurisdiction over these animals until they are ready for spaying/neutering, typically at 16 weeks of age, or later if there are any medical concerns, based on our veterinarian’s recommendation. This program is intended for applicants who want to adopt—this is different from our standard dog adoption process and foster program.
How the Program Works:
For those interested in our “Foster to Forever Program” (FTF), this program is designed for the youngest puppies in our program who are not yet old enough or weigh enough for spaying/neutering, making them ineligible for our traditional adoption process. Look for puppies with ‘FTF’ after their names in our listings.
This program is exclusive to Albany County residents to ensure that LAWS can oversee the health and well-being of these puppies until their spay/neuter procedure is complete.
Our FTF Program focuses on finding foster parents who intend to adopt the puppy they foster, ensuring these young puppies experience a stable, loving environment during their transition to a forever home.
Fosters in the FTF Program must commit to bringing their puppy to scheduled booster shot appointments and the mandatory spay/neuter procedure. Once age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, microchipping, and the spay/neuter procedure (completed at 16 weeks of age) are complete, we will sit down and finalize the adoption.
Program Cost: The cost to foster/adopt an FTF puppy is $325 (updated 4/1/2025), payable at the time you receive your foster puppy. This fee covers the adoption cost and all veterinary care during the FTF contract.
If you’re a resident of Albany County and want to participate in our “Foster to Forever Program,” please complete the Foster to Forever Application to start the rewarding journey of fostering and adopting a puppy.
Meeting Our Puppies: Our available puppies and dogs currently reside in foster care and are not present at our Adoption Center. If you’re interested in meeting one of our available puppies, please begin by submitting a dog/puppy application.
